The twice chalice

In 1672 the inhabitants of Taubach donated money to buy a new chalice. A total of 26 thalers 21 groschens and six pfennigs were accumulated. The silver chalice was made by Mr Andreß Srörchen in Erfurt, Auf der Langen Brücke, and delivered on the 6th(Jul.)/16th(Gre.) April 1672, the Saturday before Easter (according to both calendars). The chalice cost a total of 27 thalers six groschens and six pfennigs - it was a mates' rate. In addition the journeyman received a vail of twelve groschens. On the next day, the Easter Sunday 1672, the chalice was consecrated and used for the first time. But a long life was not granted to the chalice: on Tuesday the 10th(Jul.)/20th(Gre.) January 1682 it melted in the fire of the rectory in Mellingen, where it was kept. On 19th(Jul.)/29th(Gre.) March 1682 was again asked for donations for a new chalice. Ten thalers eleven groschens and nine pfennigs were donated. The new gilded silver chalice was made by the Weimar goldsmith Mr Johann Dreher, and weighed 36½ Lot (18.8 uz, one Weimar Lot = 0.515 uz). It bore the inscription "1672 und als er 1682 im Brande zerschmoleen, tum 2. Mahl verfertiget" (1672 and when it melted in the fire in 1682, made a second time) under the foot, which was six-foiled with flowers in the corners, the knob was globular with some leaves on upside and downside. The cup was taken in use on the 17th(Jul.)/27th(Gre.) April 1682 (Easter Monday(Jul.) / fifth Monday after Easter Sunday(Gre.)).

The tailor master Hans Heinrich Strasbourg from Kapellendorf venerated a tin bottle for use to the Lord's Supper to the Taubach church on 26th May(Jul.)/05th June(Gre.) 1672. The vessel held three Nössels (1.35 l; ≈ 2.38 Imp. pt) and melted at the village fire in 1674. In 1673 Duke Johann Ernst II of Saxe-Weimar gave twelve thalers for the renovation of the church from the monetary penalties, which were earned. On 31st July(jul.)/10th August(gre.) 1675 (Julian calendar: day Germanus of Auxerre, often referred as Gormanny), the Weimar turner Mr Jakob Fayer Hacke presented a maple-turned altar bread box for reinforce the church apparatus of the Taubach church.

Mr Hans Schmied from Mellingen bequeathed the Taubach church ten thalers on his deathbed in 1678. The Weimar organ builder Georg Bernhard Rücker gave a gilded crucifix on the 4th(Jul.)/14.(Gre.)
