After Germany's defeat in the First World War

the German population was very disappointed by the Weimar Republic, whose politicians were unable to cope with the demands such as the huge reparations, hunger, unemployment and inflation. The President of Germany, Paul von Hindenburg, dissolved the newly elected Reichstag (voting on 31th July 1932) at its first meeting on 12th September 1932, what resulted in new elections on 06th November 1932.

The new Reich Chancellor (Reichskanzler) became General Kurt von Schleicher on 03rd December 1933. He strove for a cooperation between the Reichswehr, the rightist Social Democrats, the Allgemeiner Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund (ADGB) (German Federation of Trade Unions) and the left wing of the NSDAP, but failed of Adolf Hitler's claim to leadership in the NSDAP and the lack of support from his own party (DNVP). Schleicher's competitor Franz von Papen (also DNVP) reach an agreement with Adolf Hitler on an alliance under whose leadership in January 1933. On 30th January 1933 Adolf Hitler was appointed to the Reichskanzler by the President of Germany Paul von Hindenburg. The Reichstag was dissolved on 01st February 1933, new elections were necessary.

A new Reichstag election and the plebiscite about the withdrawal of Germany from the League of Nations took place together on 12th November 1933. From 450 votes to the plebiscite were 439 for and 11 against the withdrawal of Germany from the League of Nations. Only 447 votes had been given on the Reichstag election, 441 of which were in favor of the election proposal of the NSDAP and 6 votes were void.

On 19th August 1934 at the plebiscite for the head of state of the German Reich voted 405 voters for Adolf Hitler as Führer and Reichskanzler, 20 against him and other seven gave an invalid vote.
