The first authentic mention

was served in a deed of donation by the Edle Wichmann (Noble Wichmann) as Thovbeche (Taubach) dated on the 16th April 1120(1; note: see line 10 there). Behind the "Noble Wichmann" is the Count Wichmann von Gleuß-Seeburg(2). Whose local county coverd the area between Naumburg and Weimar with the Buttelstedt court and the around 1085 donated convent of canons Saint Martin at Ettersburg (then Eyderesburc; the convent was later an Augustinian monastery)(3). Count Wichmann's wife was Cunigunde, one of the daughters of Louis the Springer (real Louis the Salian, hounor as builder of the Wartburg near Eisenach)(4), which also brought a farm "Kaltenborn" (yard at the cool (Kalten-) spring (-born), written as Chaldenborn, Caldenborn, Kaldenborn, Kaltenbrunnen too) into the marriage. The other two daughters of Ludwig were Cäcilia, who married Gerlach, Count of Waldensee, and Adelheid, whose marriage to Count Ulrich of Weimar-Orlamünde remained childless, which precipitated the Weimar War of Succession.(5, 6) The deed seals that Count Wichmann to the salvation of his wife Cunigunde and his father (Count Berno of Seeburg(8)) and his mother (Countess Adelheid of Gleuss(2)), among others, assigned 10 Hufes (1 Frankish land hufe (11,968 ha) ≈ 1 English yardland (12,1406 ha)) land and a mill in Taubach to his monastic foundation in Kaltenborn. In case of this document is Taubach the oldest certified mill site in Thuringia. The marriage of Count Wichmann and Cunigunde remained childless too; five years after Cunigunde died, Count Wichmann became a canon of the Ettersburg convent in 1123.(3) Duke Wilhelm Ernst of Saxe-Weimar let built the Jagdschloss (hunting lodge) Ettersburg in place of the convent in the years 1706 to 1712 as a three-winged, artless buildng.(8)

In the aforementioned document were mentioned the localities of Altenbeuthen(9) and Drognitz(10) (above the Hohenwarte reservoir), Dreitzsch(11) and Kospoda(12) (near Neusadt an der Orla), Lengefeld(13) and Neudörnfeld(14) (both are parts of the town of Blankenhain in the Weimarer Land district), Moderwitz(15) (part of the town of Neustadt an der Orla) and Rauschengesees (16) (part of the municipality of Remptendorf in the Saale-Orla district) for the first time.

On 07th August 1136, Emperor Lothar III confirmed in Osterode (in the Harz, now Lower Saxony) the Stift Kaltenborn, the estates to the bishopric of Halberstadt for the founding of an Augustinian convent of canons, which Count Wichmann had given, amongst others in the village Taubach eleven Hufes ("… in villa Doubeke XI mansos, …").(17)

Frederick I, named Barbarossa (the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, who has been waiting for the creation of a German central government in a cave in the Kyffhäuser mountain in Thuringia since 1190), exchanged land with the monastery of Kaltenborn in 1179. The 11 Hufes in Doubecka (Taubach), which Count Wichmann brought into his foundation, belonged to it and were transferred to the fief by Count Siegfried of Orlamünde.(18)
